Aether

The Moon of Draconem

Aether is the moon of Dracōnem - it is ringed, distant and the ring is visible in the night sky (and often the day sky) regardless of if the moon is. At certain points in its orbit, it comes extremely close to Dracōnem, taking up a large portion of the sky both day and night (if, of course, it is visible during the day) - as well as this, it naturally crescents in a way one would find familiar with any moon.

When Aether is at its closest point to Dracōnem (which occurs every third month), the shadow of Dracōnem blots out most of it. Due to this, it appears that there are in fact two rings. The natural ring, and the outer edge of the moon's body itself that still reflects the light of the sun. Aether only reaches this close orbit during a full moon, which is fairly lucky, as if it ever did so during the new moon phase (or the invisible moon phase) it would cast a shadow onto Dracōnem, causing a perpetual night for the week-long period in which Aether is sufficiently close.
