Fae

Created by Oberon the Crow God are the fae (not a playable race. Half-fae (sprites) are, however playable and usually are mechanically elves). This was his foray into creating his own servants, as his father the World-Walker did before him. However Oberon, unfortunately, made them in his own image. The World Walker and the Mother had ideal images to replicate. The conniving, mischievous God, the creator of small print, was bound to make a less-than-savoury creature.

While the mark of the Gods is gold, the fae's runes are silver, as is the touch of their magic. They come in all forms, digitigrade legs, various tones of skin, horns or otherwise. All are intelligent and sentient, though not all speak. Sprites of all descriptions may exist, should a fae be tricky enough to fool anyone to bear his blood (though, they are usually humanoid). It’s even whispered that a realm beyond mortal knowledge might exist, glinting somewhere where humans dare not tread…

Spontaneous Mutation and Sprites

Fae are completely random creatures, even though their origins are identical - every different fae is the product of insane and random mutation during their creation, whether in the first creation event by Oberon or from pools of fae magic congealing into a being. This is why a manta ray and a basically-human are both fae in the exact same right. The only way for those mutations, those traits that are inherent and unique to each individual fae, to be passed down is through the sprite offspring that a fae may have with mortals. It's like it suspends the traits of the fae in amber, which can then be passed down to more and more not-full-fae children, similar to the lineage of Ikars and Lycanthropes.

The Birth of a Fae

Not all the fae were born instantly. While a significant amount came from Oberon directly, the rest came directly from his magic but not directly from him. Places where fae gather or spend significant amounts of time result in pools of their innate divine arcana, derived from Oberon. These pools are not visible nor tangible, often resulting in strange natural occurrences (anything born in these places may have strange attributes such as birthmarks, fur patterns, or eye colours. Plants with alchemical attributes that grow there are doubly more potent than is usually possible). As well as this, singing with the Anthem here is more effortless, allowing one to draw more easily than they often anticipate. These pools have the ability to become fully realised into full-blood fae the same as any of their brothers and sisters. This occurs through 'incitement.' Inciting can mean a fair few things - the parameters of it are not specifically known entirely. It is known that significant arcane events can incite a pool of fae arcana, evaporating the pool into a fae. Sometimes, it is great tragedies that incite a pool - great stirrings of sadness, anger, or even glee. Any great stirring can be an incitement, including natural disasters, which spawn Omen.

The children of fae and mortals, half-fae, are called sprites. They more often than not appear mostly human, though can also appear no less inhuman than their divine parent.
