Fulm'rai

Fulm’rai, the Heading, is the god of loyalty, safe travels and navigation. Sailors, naval companies and swagmen alike have small shrines dedicated to him, sometimes having tattoos, necklaces or other jewellery symbolising him and his iconography - compasses, stars and maps. Because of this, academy-educated cartographers are also referred to as ‘Hands of Fulm’rai.’ All maps are only considered to be done officially or professionally when inscribed upon its back: ‘By decree of man and god, this canvas is anointed by the Heading; may those it guides find their journey wondrous and their destination swiftly.’

In ancient canon, Fulm’rai’s dependency on the stars paired with his closeness to his sister, Hound, resulted in the myth that Hound was the one to craft the stars and hang the mobile of the night’s sky above humanity. It is said the stars move the ocean for him, allowing him to cross to new continents on foot by walking across the sea floor.

Fulm’rai is always depicted with a tome, infinite in its pages though never seeming to grow thicker for it, that details every map ever made by god or man - humanities first forays into cartography, their finest, most up-to-date atlases, the practice scribings of cartography students, children’s scribblings - it is all there, even amongst his own divine map-makings.

He is beloved by all gods and men, with the most skilled of cartographers visited by him personally to be granted championship. In addition, great explorers and trailblazers are given his championship, if he can beat his brother Tida’el to them.

Depiction

He is often depicted with a loose travel-appropriate poncho, a leather satchel that is infinite in its capacity, just as his book, which contains relics and souvenirs from places he has traversed to. He is depicted with a long stick with a pouch tied to the end, hefted always over his shoulder. In the dark, when the stars cannot shine above him to guide his way, they appear on his skin to light the way to safety. He is shorter than most gods, standing at 5’3” with dark skin and bone-white hair.
